FAQS

  1. What is Pilates and how does it work?
Pilates is a full-body exercise system focused on strengthening your core, improving flexibility, balance, and posture. It integrates breath, controlled movement, and proper alignment to train a strong, balanced body.

  2. Do I need to be flexible or fit to start Pilates?
No—Pilates meets you where you are. It’s designed for all fitness levels and bodies, offering modifications so beginners can build strength, flexibility, and confidence safely.

  3. How often should I practice Pilates to see results?
Consistency is key. Practicing Pilates 2-3 times per week yields noticeable improvements in strength, posture, and body awareness over time.

  4. What should I wear to a Pilates class?
Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows full range of motion. Grip socks are recommended for reformer classes for safety on the equipment.

  5. What is the difference between Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates?
Mat Pilates uses body weight and small props on the floor, while Reformer Pilates uses specialized spring-loaded machines for resistance and support.

  6. Is Pilates safe for people with injuries or health conditions?
Yes, Pilates is often recommended for rehabilitation and injury prevention because it builds balanced strength and improves mobility with low impact.

  7. Can Pilates help with posture or back pain?
Absolutely. Pilates targets postural muscles and realigns the spine, helping to reduce tension, alleviate pain, and improve overall posture.

  8. How soon will I notice changes in my body?
Many notice improved posture and flexibility within 10 sessions, with increased strength and control developing after 20-30 sessions.

  9. Do I need a certified instructor or can I learn Pilates at home?
Certified instructors ensure you learn proper technique safely and get personalized guidance. Home practice can supplement but in-person teaching is ideal, especially for beginners.

  10. Can Pilates help with weight loss or muscle toning?
Pilates tones muscles and builds lean strength but is not primarily a cardio workout. It complements weight loss when combined with proper nutrition and other aerobic exercise.

What Our Clients are Saying

I started taking group classes with Shanna @ Shine Pilates in Jan 2024 after years of yoga, swimming, spin classes & boxing. This by far created the most immediate results! Visits to the chiropractor have gone to zero. Shanna has helped me with my scoliosis & my sciatica. I’m stronger, leaner & happier!! I went from 8 classes a month to 12 almost immediately. I love all the different varieties of classes AND all the members I’ve met.  I mean, when your husband starts calling you a “Pilates Hottie” you know you’re doing something right!!
